I somehow didn't even know you had a Youtube until I read this post! Not sure if you removed the link from your Newgrounds profile (or if it was never there to begin with) or what, considering you see Youtube as a dead-end now.

I agree that it is frustrating to watch these platforms implement all these superfluous "improvements" and "features" in the interest of money, without benefiting the core of what makes the website really worth using--its users. That's why they all feel so deteriorated and eroded now. Twitter being the worst of it of course.

The competition is steepest on Youtube. With each passing day it becomes increasingly harder to find a substantial amount of success for yourself when you're just starting from scratch. Especially if what you're making isn't considered "topical" and you're just uploading your own creative work.

I have peers who have found a palpable amount of success on Youtube, and that was thanks to my--and other's--support, so it's definitely not impossible. Granted, their videos are on topics that aren't necessarily "mainstream" but certainly still have a decent audience of their own. I guess I say that to say: If you ever consider taking Youtube seriously again, don't be afraid to ask others to lend a hand!

Youtube is like a game, but its rules feel like they're always changing. So it's definitely understandable to just say "screw it".

Yeah, I don't link to my YouTube account, I would prefer if people followed me here. My animation style is also just too time-consuming to ever be "topical." Good news is that social media is not THAT important for those of us that want to turn animation into a proper job--obviously, I want to put my stuff out there for as many people as possible to see, which is why I'll still at least casually post important stuff on YouTube like my yearly Demo Reel, but clearly the path to success in the industry is more "quality vs. quantity" while the path to success on popular social media sites is more "quantity over quality" (though it still has to be the best you can do over a weekend of non-stop work). I kind of like now that the Newgrounds Movie Portal encourages more high-effort, longer animations from people like me, now that I think about it.

im making an oc based on the new web. i found this post inspiring. what would you reccomend they look like? (not too big buisness like)

also sorry if i sound dumb

A Bored Ape techbro slug still desperately clinging to the hope that Google Glass will soon become the new “iPhone,” while insisting on calling salt “sodium chloride” just to be even more annoying.

@jthrash I’m glad NG exists. As much as there is little hope, I still try to remain grateful for NG.
