congrats on being a 30 year old.

It took more work than I thought...

Happy 30!

I turned 28 in July this year. We're 2 years apart age-wise (that's not a lot) and I have a bit of a hard time identifying as a full fledged Millennial like you. I'm too young to be nostalgic for the stuff most Millennials are. On the other hand, I'm just a tiny bit too old to experience today's zeitgeist the same way average Gen Z-ers do. I personally like to believe I'm a "Zillennial". Yes, it is an actual term, albeit rarely used and imho pretty underrated.

The thing is, people of this particular oddball generation are split into those who identify as Gen Z-ers and Millenials, from what I've observed. Which I think is a peculiar phenomenon worth learning about.

I guess I'm kind of like a "Zillennial," now that I think about it. I absolutely adore '90's media, but technically it's "before my time" and I watched shows like Animaniacs and Rocko's Modern Life as re-runs in the 2000's, not when they actually premiered for the most part. I am both intensely nostalgic for the first three seasons of Rugrats (which all technically came out before I was even born) and the first three seasons of SpongeBob. Same goes for the PS1, N64, Dreamcast and SNES, I discovered all their best games via retro game stores, re-releases on more modern consoles and remasters. At the same time, every once in a while I do actually enjoy something more modern kids enjoy, like when Fortnite in its current form came out, Undertale/Deltarune and of course all the indie animations popping up on YouTube and Newgrounds these days. Interesting time to be 30.

"30th anniversary special edition" lol, if i'm famous enough when i turn 30 i will use it as joke to sell my stuff overpriced. I'm 25 and soon i will be there too. I'm younger and i surely doesn't identify myself with the gen z stuff, maybe because i'm poor or because i'm too old school, or i'm too old school because i'm poor, so i always sticked with the older suff rather than getting tuned in on what was hyped. But anyway i love old school/millenials stuff and i was born at 1999 so i'm from the past century
Anyway dude you know i don't celebrate birthdays lol but happy 30th anniversary jeffrey thrash special edition

The prices that modern entertainment expects us to pay (especially for "premium" streaming services like Disney Plus or 4K consoles like the PlayStation 5) is frankly daylight robbery, so even I'm getting into retro stuff these days to save some money on entertainment. I just got this Retron-5 console that plays old Nintendo and SEGA cartridges, got a cheap copy of Super Mario Bros (of course), plus some imported Super Robot Wars beat-em-up game on the Super Famicom, and the SRW game in particular is probably my Game of the Year 2024 even though technically it originally released in 1993, a year before I was even born.

IM NOT READY FOR 18 YEARS

Gotta be honest, being a twenty-something is a bit rough, where society (at least American society) expects you to be a functioning adult with your own house and a wife and kids, yet older generations who were lucky enough to live on their own by their 18th birthday keep voting for these lousy politicians who will do everything in their power to make it impossible for you to leave your parents' care without becoming homeless or dead, while blaming your "laziness" for structural problems they caused.

I've been told all throughout my twenties that the thirties is actually where it's at in this day and age--you're still young enough to be ambitious while also having more discipline and experience, and you're more likely to know how to most effectively spend your mortal life to the fullest at that point. I can already tell I'm developing the maturity, will-power and discipline needed to really improve in my art and animation and this year will be a huge "self-improvement" phase for me.

@Tankcraft jeffrey did give a good explanation, but not 100% accurate, so here is the 100% accurate explanation: i'm a very christian and i did read all the bible and take many of the stuff there seriously, in the bible only 3 times we have birthdays mentioned: 2 times were birthdays celebrations and 1 is about the birthday cake rite. The first time is in genesis, pharaoh was celebrating his birthday when he decided to kill one of the prisoners. The second was in king herod's birthday where a girl ordered him to behead john baptist. Only 2 birthdays celebrations in the bible and both had death. The mention about the birthday cake is at Jeremiah 7:18, making those cakes comes from ancient pagan rites, the pagans did make cakes to offer to the "queen of heaven".
In satanism lavey the most important day is the birthday, probably has to do with "being lover of yourself". Birthday is a day by which some people wants to feel special, some get very sad when people don't give a fuck about their birthdays.
I also think birthday cakes are something a bit nasty, people clapping and singing "happy birthday to you" while little particles of their spit falling on the cake then serving that cake for everybody there, 2020 pandemic did show us a bit of how deadly a birthday party could be
But anyway i respect people who celebrates birthdays, i just don't, but when i see it's something special for a friend i will say such things like "happy birthday my friend and ting"

STOP MAKING ME FEEL OLD!!

@jthrash did google a bit of that retron-5, looks cool indeed, i still have my super nintendo (my "relic" how we say here in brazil, a slang for cool old things), i did test it back in 2015 my favorite game was the super mario world but it was not working anymore.
If those things are getting expensive for you americans imagine for us brazilians lol they're impossible for us. But anyway i'm already too used to only old games, the newest game i played was gta iv and a bit of sniper elite nazi zombie army but it was many years ago

You're really not missing out on much these days, unless you MUST have .0002% more realistic building reflections in your games than you're already getting in GTA IV. Those insane "quadruple-A gaming" budgets certainly aren't going towards innovative new game designs or physics that only the latest hardware can handle, just shinier visuals (assuming you can also afford the 4KTV that can even render that much detail). Seriously, the mere existence of a $700+ PS5 Pro is a joke.

Upside to this pointless PC/Console graphics arms race is that it made me realize I should follow the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) rule when designing the visuals of my own cartoons. If it took took Sony and Firewalk Studios 8 years and like $200 Million to make an extremely-detailed game like Concord, only to take away the game 2 weeks later partly because the character designs are so dang ugly, that's kind of a wake-up call for a solo artist like me to focus more on simple, appealing designs and stories I can put out quicker, not waste away my 30's adding ugly textures to everything that most people can't even see on their screens.

@jthrash teehee

all your base are belong to us

That's actually BEFORE my time.

That's better.

@jthrash speaking of that meme, im hyperfixated on the band that made it popular, the laziest men on mars. so much of them is unknown, and only one member’s name has been revealed, and they died in 2011 at 34 yrs. they did release more songs, some remixes, some rave/club stuff and some additional. the children of mars is one of my favorties and the most depressing of their musix.

all their known music

@jthrash yeah i did imagine the new games ain't got much better than the older games besides graphics and fancy details. Like red dead redemption 2 looks like a great game, very beautiful graphics, a lot of details, but the gameplay doesn't look very fun, i imagine it like an EOFS boring long ep like calabresa but with good fancy animations and production
And yeah, other thing i learned in this business (as well with stuff like red dead) is that you gotta focus on it being fun also, not only a fancy production.
I also will never do a fancy production like digital circus nor with all bouncy animated characters like a kids show like hazbin hotel did, since i do stuff for mature audience not for kids, i wanted my stuff to look slow, stiff and sinister to repulse kids to watch it (but it did end up repulsing many adults too lol)

Happy Anniversary! You did it! :D

They can't finish me off that easily!

Happy birthday. Hope you're having a wonderful time. And prepare yourself for "the wig".

What "wig"??

Happy anniversary

Happy 30th! What color would you like the cushion on your walker to be?

Green with blue polka-dots

Happy 30th anniversary! You're almost at your old age, make sure to keep yourself healthy so that you can live longer!

(Sighs, shoves birthday cake slice away from me, replaces it with a single carrot)

@jthrash got you covered, pepaw

@jthrash You know, the one you gonna need to not become "BALDBALDBALDBALDMYEYEEEEES" or before hair D'oh's out of of your head.
