Mac vs PC...vs Linux, I guess.

Posted by jthrash - August 14th, 2023

Okay, so, for no particular reason, certainly not one relevant to the super-secret project of mystery I'm working on right now...what is your preferred operating system? Windows? Apple Mac? Linux distros (and if "yes" to this, which distro, exactly)?

Windows

Windows (7)

The correct answer.

Windows, but right now I'm leaning a little bit towards Linux, Distro? Linux Mint seems alright

Windows does seem to be where most people do their gaming, whether by choice or by necessity. NOT THAT IT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH MY SUPER-DUPER SECRET PROJECT, nope-nope-nope!

Windows, cuz Windows has perfect stuff for everything you make

You hear that, Billy Gates? Microsoft monopolizing the "Personal Computer/PC" industry in the late '90's has finally paid off!

for artistic pursuits, MAC
for technical/programming/development/casual pursuits, Linux (Ubuntu is fine but any common distro will do)
if you are an intellectual dumb@ss...or perhaps a gamer, then Windows

windows, that's what i can afford and what i know to use, linux looks like some complex shit, also windows 7 the best one, 8, 10, 11 all garbage and bill gates illuminati microsoft multinational corporations

@S3C or if you live in an underdeveloped country - windows

@TheMiamiDeSantos yeah Mac is overpriced for sure but you can try getting secondhand. or are they just not easy to come by in Brazil?

@S3C well, as a matter of fact i have never seen a mac computer here, i have seen iphones, but no mac computers and they are ridiculously expensive, even the second hands one, they'are like 2x or 3x the price of a brand new windows by which are expensive already, every technology here in brazil is too expensive, my computer is a lenovo laptop i3 4gb of RAM and it costed like 3 of my month wages back at the time

To be fair, Macs are ridiculously overpriced everywhere, like all Apple products, and they're oftentimes not even that powerful to justify the price. Macs have supposedly gotten better at handling complex 3D programs like Blender and Unreal Engine, but for the price you have to pay for them, you might as well get a monster Windows PC that can also play the latest video games made in those programs, not just the software used to make such games.

I suppose they are like the electric cars of the computer world in that they are far more energy-efficient than most newer Windows and Linux computers if you can afford them...

Windows because that's what I know best. My first machine was a Mac but they're pricey AF...I don't spend any more on modern tech than I absolutely have to. Would use a good version of Linux if I were more interested in programming.

I tried to use Linux (some fork of Ubuntu, if I remember correctly) a bit, and yeah, you kind of have to be okay with the idea of typing in various bits of code to do things that you can more easily and quickly do in Windows. I heard Mint might be a bit easier, and might even be similar to the now-legendary Windows 7 from what I've heard, I'll have to try it at some point.
