Cool New Cartoon Pilot

Posted by jthrash - October 13th, 2023

I did not work on this or have anything to do with this (sadly), but I thought I'd share it anyway because I thought it was cool!

It was totally worth the wait. Independent animation is the future!

i love indie animation. even if i hate the result i'll appreaciate the work.

Companies like Disney are certainly not making the "traditional" route of working in Hollywood look good these days (apparently they have not one but TWO AI-related controversies in the past week, involving the new season of Loki and some Disney Channel movie basically confirming SAG-AFTRA's fears, even if the digital stand-ins are both more expensive and look significantly worse than just hiring background actors, and ensuring the actor's strike will continue on long after the writer's strike ended).

But on a more positive note, it's great that indie animation has matured to the point where there seems to be a series for everybody. Like here, The Amazing Digital Circus is 100% my jam while Glitch Tech's other series, Murder Drones, didn't quite click with me (probably because it's too "teen angst" for my almost-30-year-old brain). It's mind-blowing that we have so much choice in the indie space now, whereas in the mainstream space with all their extra money, it's still just a choice between juvenile western animation for literal babies (and over-sensitive boomers who apparently couldn't handle the "period" reference in Turning Red), anime, cheap live-action, or just touch grass, animation nerd. Indie animation truly is the future of entertainment!

@jthrash i agree. i love your art style.

Again, sadly I had nothing to do with The Amazing Digital Circus, it's just a cartoon pilot that I personally though was entertaining and worth the wait, but I'm glad my art style gives you even more options on top of that!

...I just wish major studios weren't in such a rush to make my Animation degree more useless than it already is. Oh well, I have a good job now, pays better than the animation industry, I only work 4 days a week so that I can still work on solo projects and not have to worry about monetizing my art at all anymore.

@jthrash at least you aren’t working for hollywood.

Jeffrey! Your animations are awesome! Congratulations on being awarded User of the Day on 10/21/23!

I just noticed that logging in today! Cool!
