I think it’s just human nature to hope politicians will just do their job and fix larger problems like climate change and inflation so that we can merely focus on our jobs and not worry about bigger problems. The problem is that people who seek the power represent human nature at its absolute scummiest and most self-serving and TECHNICALLY are doing their jobs correctly, but unfortunately their job is NOT to serve people but rather corporate donors and their own party. As frustrating as it often is, even if a politician or several politicians that you genuinely approve of wins, you still need to be writing to them constantly and reminding them to at least pretend to care about the public—you can’t just tune out the news until a politician or party you don’t like comes into power, as relaxing as that sounds.
Also that random side-rant about subscriptions forcing you to stay in crappy jobs to pay them off has aged better than I would like, considering everything’s a subscription service that wants your money forever, now.
